Particles whose sizes are outside the standard’s range, such as ultrafine (0.1 mm in size) and coarse (>0.5 mm in size), are not graded.

Based on Federal standard 209 E, ISO 14644-1 introduces three new levels of cleanroom standard cleanliness: two levels cleaner than state standard 209 E cleanest and one less clean than low level of Federal Standard 209 E.
